Are Laser Engraved Bottle Openers Profitable? Cost & ROI Breakdown

Creatives, today's ROI spotlight is on one of my favorite quick-turn products: leatherette bottle openers!

Why do I love these blanks? They're quick to engrave, have a high perceived value, and can be personalized for weddings, breweries, real estate closing gifts, corporate events, and so much more!

But are they actually profitable? Let's do the math!

The Cost & Selling Price

Blank cost: $2.70 each
Selling price: $15–$18 each
Engraving time: Approximately 15 seconds, depending on your design.

Now, if you're Speedy Gonzales, you might be able to engrave four per minute! 😂

But realistically, let's estimate three per minute using a galvo laser.

That's a potential production rate of 180 bottle openers per hour, assuming a continuous workflow.

Not too shabby!

Let's Talk Profit!

If you sell one for $15:

$15 − $2.70 = $12.30 gross profit

If you sell one for $18:

$18 − $2.70 = $15.30 gross profit

That's a pretty attractive margin for something that engraves so quickly!

Now, remember, these numbers don't include labor, packaging, equipment costs, processing fees, or other business expenses. So this isn't your final take-home profit.

Know your numbers before setting your prices!

Who Can You Sell These To?

Don't limit yourself to selling individual personalized gifts.

Think about your target audience!

• Real estate agents: Closing gifts for new homeowners.

• Breweries: Branded bottle openers.

• Wedding planners: Wedding favors and bridal party gifts.

• Corporate clients: Promotional merchandise and employee gifts.

• Gift shoppers: Birthdays, Father's Day, and housewarming gifts.

And please, Creatives, don't race to the bottom with your pricing! Focus on the value you're providing, not just what everyone else is charging.
